Using RTK enabled drones to map a narrow section of the Tay River, 65km northwest of Faro, Yukon, Underhill was able to deliver a detailed and accurate 3D model of the slippery rock that constrict the river and prevent salmon from spawning up stream.
To overcome the velocity barrier and open the upper reaches of the Tay to salmon spawning the rock outcrop will need to be removed. This will allow the river to flow more smoothly and salmon to get further up steam, opening up many kilometers of previously inaccessible salmon spawning grounds.
Excellent imagery and 3D models allow engineers to make well informed decisions regarding viability and planning of this unique project.
