Project Overview
Introduction
Located on the traditional territory of the Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation, the Eagle Gold Mine at Dublin Gulch is one of Yukon’s largest mining projects. Underhill was contracted during its construction phase to deliver a full suite of survey services across three years.
Project Challenges
A large and evolving construction site, the mine required precise, reliable control networks and constant layout support across diverse infrastructure components. Coordination with multiple contractors and environmental conditions demanded accuracy, flexibility, and consistency.
Underhill’s Approach
Under the direction of JDS Mining and Engineering, and later Victoria Gold directly, Underhill installed precise geodetic control points and provided construction layout for roads, utilities, conveyor systems, and camp facilities. Our team also delivered detailed as-built surveys and CAD documentation for all major systems. UAV flights produced 3D models and orthophotos of expansive earthworks, supporting both engineering design and compliance reporting.
Notably, Underhill partnered with the Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation through a revenue-sharing agreement, building on a trusted relationship that dates back to the 1970s.
Notable Outcomes
- Installed site-wide geodetic control for multi-contractor coordination
- Delivered CAD-based volume and as-built reports for large-scale infrastructure
- Captured high-resolution UAV imagery and orthophotos for ongoing analysis
- Transitioned from construction to production support as the mine came online
- Strengthened long-term First Nations partnership through revenue sharing
Technical Highlights
- Construction layout for roads, utilities, conveyor belts, and MSE walls
- As-built surveys for electrical, mechanical, and civil systems
- CAD volume reports for earthworks and infrastructure verification
- UAV-based 3D modeling and orthophoto mapping
- High-accuracy topographic and geodetic surveying
- Revenue sharing partnership with Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation
Project Impact
With Underhill’s support, the Eagle Gold Mine transitioned smoothly from construction to production, backed by precise geodetic control and accurate infrastructure layout. UAV mapping and CAD reporting enabled efficient earthworks management and regulatory compliance. The project advanced large-scale resource development in Yukon while incorporating Indigenous participation. Underhill’s expertise directly contributed to the mine’s operational success and long-term sustainability.
