Project Overview
Introduction
In 2005, Underhill was commissioned to complete a mineral lease survey at Ruby Creek near Atlin, BC. This groundbreaking project marked the first mineral lease survey completed under British Columbia’s new geographic cell system, replacing the legacy location line method.
Underhill’s Role in the Project
Supervised by F.B. Underhill, the team leveraged GPS technology to perform a precise survey of the mineral claims. This work established a new standard for mineral lease surveys in BC.
Survey Technologies Used
- Trimble R8 GPS Receivers Used for both real-time kinematic (RTK) and static survey methods to ensure high accuracy in remote conditions.
- CAD & Digital Modeling Post-processing and final documentation were completed using CAD tools, ensuring the lease met all regulatory requirements.
- Topographic Mapping Supported the claim definition and provided essential data for mineral exploration planning.
Project Significance
This was a landmark project in the modernization of mineral surveying in British Columbia. By adopting the geographic cell system early, Underhill helped set the benchmark for future mineral lease workflows.
