Project Overview
Introduction
In 2019, Underhill Geomatics was engaged by Pembridge Resources to support the re-opening of the Minto Mine—a copper-gold operation in central Yukon. Our team provided both underground and surface surveying services during start-up and early production phases.
Project Challenges
Restarting mine operations required accurate geospatial data for underground development, equipment alignment, drill pattern layout, and volume measurement. Conditions in the underground environment required rugged, efficient workflows and high-precision deliverables.
Underhill’s Approach
Underhill deployed experienced personnel and survey technicians to support a wide range of operational tasks. This included CMS surveys, drill hole and stope layout, raisebore machine alignment, volume calculations, and control advancement. 3D laser scanning and software modeling ensured accurate data processing and visualization for engineering teams.
Notable Outcomes
- Supported the safe and accurate re-opening of a major Yukon mine
- Delivered high-precision survey control for both underground and surface workflows
- Contributed to early production success through reliable layout and measurement
Technical Highlights
- Cavity Monitoring Surveys (CMS) for stope void measurement
- Drill hole and long-hole ring layout for production
- Raisebore machine alignment and verification
- Volume calculations and stockpile measurements
- Underground control advancement
- Diamond drill alignment and setup
- Software processing of scan and survey data
Project Impact
Underhill’s surveying played a key role in the successful restart of the Minto Mine, helping Pembridge Resources resume safe and efficient production. Our accurate underground and surface data supported critical tasks like drill layout, volume tracking, and machine alignment. This work contributed to the revival of a major mining asset and supported economic activity in central Yukon.
