Project Overview
Introduction
In 2007, Underhill was contracted to provide full-service surveying for the Vancouver Coastal Health campus redevelopment—an extensive, multi-year urban renewal project covering roughly 11 city blocks and resulting in 10 major new healthcare and research buildings.
Underhill’s Role in the Project
Underhill provided legal, engineering, and 3D digital surveying services for Vancouver Coastal Health and its construction partners. Our work helped ensure accurate site planning, utility coordination, and phased construction.
Survey Services Provided
- Detailed Topographic Surveys Captured above- and below-ground features including structural outlines and elevation changes.
- Underground Utility Mapping Mapped complex service tunnel networks and key infrastructure below street level.
- 3D Laser Scanning Produced high-resolution digital models for design, planning, and as-built verification.
- Structural As-Built Surveys Documented completed buildings and site infrastructure for compliance and future upgrades.
- Subdivision and Legal Surveys Defined property boundaries, easements, and rights-of-way for hospital operations and municipal integration.
- Construction Layout Surveys Delivered precise field layout to assist contractors during building and site development.
Project Impact
This project supported the modernization of one of BC’s largest healthcare campuses. Our data enabled designers, engineers, and builders to plan and execute within a densely developed urban site with complex underground systems.
