WWII ushers in the end of the Great Depression for Canada. Ronald, David and Ken Underhill (sons of Clare Underhill) all serve in the war. Ken is a navigator in the RCAF and flies thirty missions over Germany. Peter Underhill serves in the army of occupation after the war. On return from surveying in the remote north of the Rocky Mountains of BC, Arthur T. Holmes, BCLS, enlists in the Royal Canadian Artillery and is assigned to the Survey Regiment. He takes part in the invasion of Europe and the battle up to VE day. He returns to Vancouver with the Rank of Captain.[25]
