Project Overview
Introduction
Underhill was contracted to support the development of the Village on False Creek—originally the Olympic Village for athletes during the 2010 Winter Games. Located in Southeast False Creek, this high-profile urban redevelopment remains one of Vancouver’s most ambitious projects.
Project Challenges
This complex urban site demanded high-accuracy survey work under tight construction schedules. The transformation from industrial land to a mixed-use sustainable community required layered approvals, utility coordination, and detailed cadastral planning.
Underhill’s Approach
Underhill partnered with multiple stakeholders to provide a full suite of surveying services, from base mapping to final legal plans. Our team conducted:
- Topographic surveys for initial site planning
- Geodetic control networks for consistent, accurate layout
- As-built surveys for buried utilities, foundation structures, and roads
- Air space parceling for multi-storey developments
- Rights-of-way and strata subdivision plans for long-term property management
We worked directly with Bel Contracting, Acorn Manufacturing, Stantec, and Millennium Development to align with their engineering, legal, and construction goals.
Technical Highlights
- Legal survey plans filed for air space parcels and strata lots
- Integration with City of Vancouver’s urban design and legal frameworks
- As-built documentation for deep utilities and green infrastructure
- Strata boundary definition for phased residential and commercial buildings
- Precision layout supporting sustainable LEED-certified development
Project Impact
Underhill’s surveying services laid the groundwork for one of Vancouver’s most ambitious urban redevelopments. From deep utilities to air space parcels, our precise data enabled legal registration, phased construction, and long-term property management. This work helped transform industrial land into a vibrant, sustainable community that continues to serve residents and businesses today.
